IFSV: Dr Melanie Hawkins: The digital health literacy strengths and challenges of Australians living in social housing

Lars Kayser has a visitor from Swinburne University in Melbourne, Australia; Dr Melanie Hawkins who is a colleague of professor Richard Osborne and will visit the section.

Melanie Hawkins is an experienced researcher and project manager working in health services research for nearly 20 years, using co-design methodologies and health literacy thinking for intervention development, implementation and evaluation. Her PhD (conferred June 2020) investigated modern validity testing theories, methodologies and practices in relation to self-report (e.g., patient-reported outcome) questionnaires, with a focus on the validity of score interpretation and use in different contexts. Melanie has managed a range of projects including a collaboration with a national NGO and collaborations with international researchers working on co-design and health literacy measurement projects in the pursuit of equitable health outcomes, in particular for people experiencing vulnerabilities.

During her talk at the department she will present the digital health literacy strengths and challenges of Australians living in social housing.
